G'Day, There actually seem to be three separate families of Butsons in Australia and I have the honour of being the surviving head of one of them. I have met a number of representatives of the other branches during my time in the army being. a. Nathan Butson of Sydney related to the large family of Butsons in Port Augusta South Australia. b. Ben Butson of Townsville who was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in February for his service as the Medical Officer for 1 Royal Austarlian Regiment. Prior to that he was an Artillery Officer with 131 Div Loc Battery (that's when I met him and that's another story). Ben is Bryan Butson's son. There is also another branch of the family centred on the south coast of New South Wales decended from William and Mary Butson who settled in Milton in the 1870-1880s. I recall being told that he was a Salvationist Pastor. There are Butsons from this line located between Sydney and Batemans Bay. As for me and my house. My family is more of a line rather than a tree. My only son is Tyron Butson of Bowral a Journalist. I am an only surviving child of John Trevor Butson and Gwen Elizabeth Freebody (another rare name!). Dad was the only son of Jack Butson former director of Newtown Leagues Club and Isobel Inez Barker. Jacks Parents were George H Butson and Mary Lawson. George arrived in Australia in 1882 on the ship "Orontes" aged 17 which indicates he was born in 1865. His death certificate lists his parents as Henry and Tamsen Butson presumably from the UK. If anyone has information on Henry and Tamsen I'd be very interested. I can be contacted by EMail at peter_butson@yahoo.com. Regards Peter Butson
